No to school Polling Stations

As a school Governor at Wallace Fields and a parent of 3 school aged children school closures are always an inconvenience. The years between 2015 and 2019 were particularly challenging with many local and national elections closing schools in the borough.

I worked with a group of parents from Wallace Fields and Glyn School to lobby the electoral commission to resite polling stations. We argued that their were many buildings in the community available and appropriate for polling day activities. Democracy should not get in the way of education and equally should not hinder parents who need to go to work.

The campaign was successful and in 2021 Wallace Fields and Glyn would not be closed on polling day.
