Women's Cricket comes to Epsom

As a retired Surrey County player, I was shocked when I moved to Epsom almost 20 years ago to find they did not have a ladies team, so I started one. I put up posters in all the local shops, stations, clubs and halls and on an early spring Tuesday evening 18 women turned up at the Francis Schnadhorst Memorial Ground in Woodcote Road, in that first season we entered a league and won several matches. I was captain, wicket keeper, committee member, coach and kitman.

Today Epsom has a thriving girl’s section with many girls following in my footsteps into the County team.
